Let’s face it, if you’re like most people, you’re likely stuck in a job you hate. Even if you quit your job and start your own business, you could find yourself stuck in a job you hate forever?
Despite finding success in the corporate world, I often found myself longing for a better way. I didn’t hate my job, I just hated things about it. I tried relentlessly to fix those things. After years of trying, I finally realized that the only way to fix a broken system is to destroy it and start over.
In December of 2014 I left my corporate job to follow my passions. I knew that work could be done more efficiently and more enjoyably. Work can coexist with joy. Work can be fun.
Before you can create a job you enjoy, you have to first figure out what is causing you to report each morning to a job you hate?
Overcommitment – Just say “no.” When you have more time on your hands, you can invest that time into things you’re actually interested in.
Mundane Tasks – Automate or delegate everything you do repeatedly. Nothing makes you hate your job more than doing the same boring things every day.
Coworkers – Warren Buffett’s idea of heaven is “I don’t have to work with people I don’t like.” Hire people and contractors that you like. Just because someone is good at something doesn’t mean you have to hire them. Instead, hire competent people you enjoy being around.
Lack of purpose – You should never wonder what you have to do today. Make sure you understand and connect with your why.
Unfortunately, many people leave the job they hate and start a new company only to find out they hate their new job too. Their problem is that they let these things creep back into their world.
When you start a new business, you have a clean slate. We’re all creatures of habit however and we start working the way we’re used to. You fall right back into your old bad habits that made you hate your job in the first place.
To truly enjoy your job, you have to recognize and remove the things that will make you hate your job.
